Our standard
We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. WCAG 2.1 AA is the most widely accepted technical standard for web accessibility and the benchmark used by US federal accessibility requirements.
What we've done
- Semantic HTML throughout — proper headings, landmarks, lists, and form labels.
- Sufficient color contrast between text and background — verified against WCAG AA contrast ratios.
- Visible keyboard focus states on all interactive elements.
- Descriptive alt text on meaningful images.
- Forms with explicit labels and clear error states.
- Responsive layouts that work down to 320-pixel viewports without horizontal scrolling.
- Plain-language content — eye care information written without unnecessary jargon.
Captions and transcripts
Videos on the Doctor Eye Health YouTube channel include captions. We are working to add transcripts to our podcast episodes and longer-form videos.
Ongoing work
Accessibility is not a one-time project — it's something we maintain as the site evolves. We test against current standards, listen to user feedback, and treat accessibility issues as priority bugs.
Known limitations
Some embedded third-party content (such as podcast players or social media embeds) may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We choose third-party services with accessibility in mind and provide alternative ways to access the content where possible.
